Daemon Worlds
TENTACLED HORROR - SLAANESH

SCENERY SPECIFICATIONS

Difficulty level: Medium - Difficult
Materials Used: MDF, epoxy putty, action figure, superglue, and sand.

With the Tentacled Horror, half the work is already done for you, that is, if you're willing to hack apart an action figure from a galaxy far, far away. After you are done fighting down your revulsion at what I just said, why not give this piece of terrain a try? You will need to get comfortable with using the epoxy putty. Just remember to keep your fingers wet with a cup of tap water. The putty I used dries rock hard and doesn't warp the MDF base.

CONSTRUCTION

Stage 1

Stage 2

Stage 3

1

Cut the MDF into an irregular shape with a band saw. If you don't have a band saw, use a hacksaw or handheld jigsaw. Do not use these power tools if you are young and have no parental supervision!

2

Bevel the edges to a 45-degree angle with a belt sander. If you don't have a belt sander, try a large file.

3

Cut the tentacles from the action figure. I know, I'm crazy, but go ahead and butcher your toy! Trim and scrape away any mould lines.

4

Flatten the bases of the tentacles by cutting them off with an X-acto knife. Glue the tentacles to the base with superglue.

5

Build up sculpting putty around tentacles and along the length of the base.

6

Add small rolls of putty around the base of the tentacles. Smooth only the bottom edges into the existing putty.

7

Using a cylindrical piece of putty, push a rough "mouth" into one end and stick the other end onto the existing base. Add folds (see above, #6) and cut teeth from the toy. Push these into the putty and add another fold of putty around this maw.

8

Push random bits from the toy into the base to create warty growths. Flock the base with sand and gravel. Avoid the putty areas.

PAINTING

Stage 1

Stage 2

Stage 3

1

Spray the entire piece of terrain with Chaos Black Spray Primer.

The Tentacles

2

Basecoat the tentacles with Ice Blue.

3

Drybrush with Skull White.

4

Ink with Blue Ink. Make sure that the ink is thinned with water (1:6 mix).

Fleshy Parts

5

Basecoat with Tentacle Pink (you may need to apply a few coats).

6

Mix Tentacle Pink with Skull White (3:1). Paint over the basecoat but allow some the original layer to show through mainly in the deeper crevasses.

7

Add more Skull White to the mixture and add a final highlight.

The Teeth, Warty Lumps, and the Maw

8

Both the teeth and the warty lumps get the same treatment: touch up with Chaos Black paint and then paint on Gloss Varnish once the black paint is dry.

9

Paint the lips of the maw with single brush strokes of Scab Red. Highlight these lines with Blood Red.

The Base

10

Drybrush with Codex Grey.

11

Drybrush the small stones with Fortress Grey, but keep away from the gravel.
